VOTE PETE
  1. Should City Council include funding in the annual City budget for the capital funding of regional parks so that sufficient funds would be built up over a number of years to be able to afford the cost of acquiring significant natural areas for regional parks when the opportunity arises?
  2. Do you view parks, green space and natural areas as a part of our City infrastructure that is essential to the quality of life and continued growth and prosperity of our City and thus must be expanded to meet the increasing needs of a growing population?
  3. Are you concerned about urban sprawl and the demands that it places on the City in providing services and infrastructure and what would they do to address that?
  4. How do you feel about public access to ALL sessions of Council? In other words no secret sessions where major decisions will be made.
  5. How do you feel about revealing ALL personal assets of Council members, i.e. land ownership, building ownership etc. , when questions regarding these areas and their development/destruction are brought before Council?
  6. Would you automatically vote (as a tie breaker) on the side of development regardless of environmental impact?
  7. Would you limit the number of hours in a Council session? For example it is embarrassing to watch half-asleep Council members voting on an issue which will affect generations to come.
  8. How would you manage to clear up the roadway and traffic problems which now exist?
  9. How do you feel about a proposal to put a road through the Weaselhead rather than negotiate with the T'Su T'ina Nation?
  10. How would you fix the problem of lack of affordable housing for citizens in need?
  11. How do you feel about bringing in a proposal of rent control until our homeless problem is alleviated?
  12. How would you feel about dropping the 'school zone' signs and just making all playground and school areas 'child safe areas' with a maximum speed of 30 KPH?
  13. How do you feel about dropping multinova cameras in areas of speed changes (i.e. 50 to 70 as on Memorial Trail ) and placing them in areas of playground/school zones?

This sounds like a good idea and in theory I would be in favor of it. But off the top of my head I would not be certain that it would be possible. One of the main focuses of my platform is environmental greenspaces and parks.

      Absolutely.

  3. Are you concerned about urban sprawl and the demands that it places on the City in providing services and infrastructure and what would they do to address that?
I do not see it as much of a problem today, but in 10 years it will be a much larger problem and much more difficult to deal with. I think the solution lies in better use of transit and car pooling to cut down on the amounts of traffic in the city.

  4. How do you feel about public access to ALL sessions of Council? In other words no secret sessions where major decisions will be made.
I would be open to creating more open sessions but I do believe that some sessions should remain closed. The reason being that in order to find the best solution it is often necessary to explore all options available and some of those would not be favorable. I could easily see problems arising from this. I be for open all sessions which would involve a final decision to be made.

  5. How do you feel about revealing ALL personal assets of Council members, i.e. land ownership, building ownership etc. , when questions regarding these areas and their development/destruction are brought before Council?
      I am all for that.

  6. Would you automatically vote (as a tie breaker) on the side of development regardless of environmental impact?
No. I would favor voting on the side of environment by default.

  7. Would you limit the number of hours in a Council session? For example it is embarrassing to watch half-asleep Council members voting on an issue which will affect generations to come.
I would not be in favor of limit the hours simply because it will postpone lots of worth while discussions. But, after a study of previous votes I would be in favor of supporting a bylaw which would not allow a vote past 5:00pm for example. Thus forcing the vote the next day.

  8. How would you manage to clear up the roadway and traffic problems which now exist?
Carpooling and better transit would be my main focuses. There are many problems which would need to observed though. In my experience ,I built a website (www.calgarycommuter.com) which received a lot of attention during the transit strike, people will carpool but they need to know of their options.

  9. How do you feel about a proposal to put a road through the Weaselhead rather than negotiate with the T'Su T'ina Nation?

I think that that the T'Su T'ina Nation route would serve the city better. If that were not to be possible then I would have to look at all the other options before putting a highway though one of our parks.

  10. How would you fix the problem of lack of affordable housing for citizens in need?
I don't think there is any simple solution to this, but I would look into offering developers tax breaks and other benefits based on how many low-income housing units they built. Thus it would encourage them to build such buildings.

  11. How do you feel about bringing in a proposal of rent control until our homeless problem is alleviated?
The truth is we can not alleviate homelessness. Though supplying homeless people will keep them sheltered I don't see that as fixing any problems. Assume for whatever reason the housing they were at were to be made unavailable (fire for example) they are once again homeless. To help prevent that from happening my plan is an education focused approached. This would allow the homeless people in question to learn a trade and begin to support themselves.

  12. How would you feel about dropping the 'school zone' signs and just making all playground and school areas 'child safe areas' with a maximum speed of 30 KPH?
I would support a single 'playground zone' when put up against the two different zones.

  13. How do you feel about dropping multinova cameras in areas of speed changes (i.e. 50 to 70 as on Memorial Trail ) and placing them in areas of playground/school zones?
I think multi-nova has to stay and would vote to keep it. But I would also vote to place them in areas such as schoolzones, hospitals and so on.
